It is with great sadness that we must inform you of the death of our Chairman and one of our founding members, John Burke.
John started work at the age of 15 working for his father on road construction and took control of the family civil engineering business in the mid 1960's. He spent all of his working life as a building developer, involved in waste management, and owned a successful business park which he retired from in 2010.
He lived in Fair Oak near Southampton since the age of 5 and married Penny in 1963. Between them they have two children. His son, grandson and great granddaughter live in Florida and his daughter has stayed in Hampshire.
In 2011 he was diagnosed with Pancreatic cancer and initially given only a short time to live. Within a few weeks he was offered an aggressive "whipple" operation, by Mr Mohammed Abu Hilal in Southampton. This was a life line and after a long and difficult recovery he was able visit his family in Florida, see his great granddaughter and enjoy a much valued extended life.
John was a staunch supporter of the charity, gave tirelessly of his time and was speaking passionately about the work of the charity even during his last days. We will miss your energy and drive and give your family our sincerest condolences.
